Pros first. What this course does best is change the approach to work. And I mean not just EQing, but the overall mindset. There are no "secret weapons", no "magic frequencies" or "pro presets" - only ear training and deliberate application of effects when necessary. Alain provides lots of real life examples of that workflow, so you can digest and accept this idea in the process. The course is also using free plugins only, so everyone can download them and follow the process. The structure of the course is very thought through, it flows naturally, and I never felt I'm left with my questions unanswered. The quality of both audio and video material is excellent. The course is not boring, and doesn't feel bloated, on the contrary - everything is straight to the point. English is not my first language, but despite having an accent, Alain's pronunciation is very clear and easy to understand. I also appreciate additional materials in attachments for some lessons.
Speaking of cons, there are several minor and highly subjective ones. First of all, the delivery. When Alain criticizes other approaches that you might find online, he comes through a bit arrogant or even defensive to me, even when the criticism itself is absolutely valid. Secondly, during examples sometimes Alain was changing the settings too fast, so you cannot really understand what's going on. During other examples, on the contrary, the difference was too subtle for my skill level, so it was also too hard to hear. However, to be fair Alain was also often using the demonstration method that I find perfect: using exaggerated settings first, and then adjusting the values to sensible ones. And lastly, while I understand that the idea is to grab the overall mindset and apply it to your genre, I wish there were more examples outside of mixing a pop/rock tune. Sadly, there was only one lesson on EQing electronic kicks vs a whole section about mixing live recordings.
Overall, despite the minor cons mentioned above, I'm very satisfied with my purchase of this course, and rate it 5/5. It gave me what I was looking for the most: reinforcement of my gut feeling that I need to rethink my whole approach, and start doing everything deliberately. I can highly recommend it to everyone.
